I bought a new (at the time) Macbook Pro 15 inch, 16GB RAM, 1GB SSD, 4GB video memory and all the latest specs on my first laptop. Ughh!!! So angry at Apple! This is my very first Apple Computer. Once I picked the MacBook up from repair, the lid made a cracking noise when it opened and closed and a usb-c port loses connection if the cable is lifted gently. There are no visible marks anywhere else on the mac, no sign of impact. I presume acknowledging such a fault would open the flood gates to complaints and there is no good way to discern between genuine issues and accidental damage. (btw I live alone)Īpple said they have never seen this issue, that it was impossible for this kind of damage unless the screen had been hit or dropped and charged me almost £500 to repair it which I had no choice but to cough up.
APPLE MACBOOK PRO POWER CORD RECALL CRACK
When I returned back from lunch and woke the MacBook from sleep, the following crack was showing and I took a photo immediately. I was using it all morning for work, I was working remotely so it did not leave my desk. They said it would be a £500 screen replacement. The above posts appear to show a crack beginning from the edge of the screen - my screen crack spontaneously appeared a little further up from the bottom after 20 days of use. Arguably still a high price for a cable, but a lower price than originally quoted.ĮDIT: This cable that the Apple store said they could replace for £100 turned out to be the wrong cable and the one which either supplies power to the screen or transmits information (not sure which one) but it did not fix the issue.

So it may only end up costing £100 not £500. They even showed me the Apple Store email confirming the two separate prices.

And I could have the cable replaced without replacing the screen, reducing the cost. He said that the price for the cable (around £100) and the price for the screen (around £300) were separate costs. When in the store, the Apple worker informed me of the prices if I had to pay. įor those who consumer law does not apply to, it may not necessarily mean you have to replace the screen. If this applies to you, waive your consumer rights in the store or make a claim by contacting Apple here. Because of the consumer rights in my country (United Kingdom), Apple had to cover the costs of the repair. Apple may legally obligated to repair the device for free. It might need another class of action to put this issue into a quality program.Ĭheck the consumer rights in your country. Given many similar cases spreading globally, I am sure it is a defective product issue, Apple still refuses to look into it and continues to ask victims to pay for the expensive repair. I’m happy with the result but it is sad to see Apple continue to treat it’s customers badly especially in situation as this. The depot repair was known to be a cheaper way for fixing device issues.Īfter that, my problem was fixed within 3 days and shipped right back to me with no charge on my side. The Apple customer relation person then ordered me a repair box to ship my laptop in for depot repair. Yet, the Apple Store did not agree to the decision, I had to pick up my laptop from the Apple Store and decline the repair first. I continued to reach out to customer relation, after an hour long heated discussion, she finally agreed to repair my display for free. Long story short, I too talked to a senior staff from the support team but got no help. I can't afford an expensive repair (new display) so if I'm safe keeping the lid closed, I'm planning to use it as a first I am sorry to see another same case, Apple Store again continued to ask its customer to pay for the repair even though it is very obvious that it is a defective component. So it must be something with a damaged display cable, right? Can it get worse than it already is, like damaging the logic board or something? It works perfectly with an external monitor. The issue starts at 60 degree with the shadows appearing and screen brightness being lowered until it goes black. One important thing to mention: when I open the lid until 60 degree there's no stage light issue, the display is clean, with no shadows. Sometimes it gets illuminated only If I move it back to 60 degrees and sometimes a little more than 90 degrees. Then if I move it back to 90 degrees it gets illuminated. Yesterday, I noticed that when I tilt the screen back beyond the 90 degree angle the screen goes black. I have a 2016 macbook touchbar 13" and one month after the 1 year warranty I noticed this "stage lights" issue.
